The Referral Process – Step by Step

1. Talk to Your VA Health Care Team
   Contact your VA primary care provider (PCP) or specialist at the Detroit VA (John D. Dingell) or your local VA clinic. Explain your symptoms (e.g., "I'm dealing with chronic back pain from service – can I get a referral for chiropractic care?").
   Tip: Use My HealtheVet secure messaging, call your VA team, or mention it at your next appointment. VA chiropractic is available on-site where possible, or through community care if needed (e.g., for shorter wait times or location convenience).


2. Request Community Care if Needed
   If your VA provider agrees chiropractic can help, they'll request a referral through the VA Community Care Network (CCN). This is common for musculoskeletal issues.

   • VA reviews eligibility (usually quick – up to 14 days for processing).
   • Search for us yourself on va.gov/find-locations or ask your team to find an in-network provider.
3. Get Your Referral Authorization
   Once approved, VA issues the referral (via HealthShare Referral Manager – HSRM). You'll get details on authorized visits (often an initial series, e.g., up to 12 visits/90 days for trial of care).
   
   
4. Schedule Your Appointment with Us

5. Receive Care & Follow-Up
